Volunteering with FCF

I spent 2 weeks in Golokwati and learned so much!

Teaching in school was quite exhausting but the experience is worth it. Seeing the children understand what you explain and repeating what you say is such a great thing.

School is still working different in Ghana compared to „western“ countries. Caning children is unfortunately daily routine in some classes even if FCF is doing its best to banish it. Seeing that was hard but in the meantime it encouraged me to do something myself against it. So I tried to talk to my teacher and do things different in the hope to serve as kind of a role model.

Richard and Happy where always listening to issues I observed in class as well as Krystyna with who I had the pleasure to stay with in my first days.

FCF asked me whether I would start a fundraising for the new sanitaries in school. Though there were some troubles with the money transfer from Germany to Ghana due to Ghana’s strict controls I could raise more than 670 Euros. The best thing was that I had the possibility to see the progress on that project during my time in Golokwati. I could always keep the donors updated.

After my stay I know what the foundation stands for and how lucky DA School is to get support from it. I am glad to be able to say that I was part of it.

About me:

I finished school in Berlin, Germany in summer 2018. As a gap year (or two) I am travelling around the world to gain as much experiences as possible.

Travelling means more to me than just visiting several places. I want to experience the daily life in another culture together with local people. That’s for I love Workaway and that is how I found out about FCF.

If you want to live the Ghanaian life, do things yourself to help where you can and gain valuable experiences – you won’t be disappointed by volunteering with FCF.
